ULMA presents its diversification strategy to the Basque Government’s Minister of Industry

The Regional Minister for Industry, Energy Transition and Sustainability, Mikel Jauregi, has held a working meeting with the ULMA Group’s management team to learn about the evolution of our project and has visited the ULMA Forged Solutions plant.

Mikel Jauregi attended the meeting accompanied by the CEO of the SPRI Group, Jon Ansoleaga. Both had the opportunity to learn first-hand about ULMA’s diversifying policy, based on the development of advanced technological solutions for industry, the commitment to the sustainability of the project and the reinforcement of our cooperative model.

During the meeting, which was attended by the General Manager of the ULMA Group, Iñaki Gabilondo, and the Chairman, Ibon Calvo, accompanied by members of their management team, some of the challenges for the future were also addressed, largely conditioned by the uncertainty that the international context is currently experiencing.

The response to the United States’ tariff policy, energy and the need for talent were other issues analysed during the meeting, in which the ULMA Group’s CEO, Iñaki Gabilondo, stressed that “of the 5,600 people who make up ULMA’s workforce worldwide, nearly 3,000 work in the Basque Country, which reinforces our roots and our commitment to the environment and to people’s wellbeing”.

‘At a time when uncertainty is the only thing we can take for granted, the ULMA co-operative group is committed to industry, innovation and quality employment’.

In this respect, the Minister pointed out that ULMA’s commitment ‘is in line with the Basque Government’s strategy in favour of more industry, better industry and fewer emissions’ and stressed that ‘the ULMA Group represents something that is very much our own in the Basque Country, namely the cooperative spirit, where all the members of the company are capable of rowing together towards a common goal’.

Visit to ULMA Forged Solutions plant

The day also included a visit to the main ULMA Forged Solutions plant, where its CEO, Meritxell Sánchez, presented the production investment plan planned for this year. These include new R&D projects aimed at developing innovative solutions open to new sectors, which incorporate artificial intelligence and digitalisation in the advanced management of processes and products with high technical requirements.
