ULMA Construction, key player in the refurbishment of the Guiniguada viaduct in Gran Canaria

This viaduct, which is essential for communications on the island of Gran Canaria and stands over 100 metres high, has been refurbished without affecting traffic, thanks to the solutions provided by ULMA Construction.

The Guiniguada viaduct in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria is one of the main viaducts in the island’s road network. Like all civil infrastructure, over time it required major structural repairs.

Two of the key structures had begun to show clear signs of deterioration. This situation required urgent intervention in order to reinforce the structural integrity and extend the service life of the infrastructure.

Thanks to the solutions provided by ULMA Construction, it has been possible to carry out the refurbishment despite the obvious technical challenges.

The first and most significant challenge was the difficulty of accessing the work areas. With pillars reaching heights of 100 metres, it was essential to design and install suspended structures using BRIO scaffolding. This system, designed specifically for this environment, ensured both safety and operability at height.

Another major challenge was keeping traffic flowing throughout the entire intervention phase. Although restrictions were placed on heavy vehicle traffic, the road remained in use, which required extremely rigorous planning. Each phase of the work was coordinated in detail to minimise interference with traffic while protecting the safety of both workers and users.
