The Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa has visited ULMA to meet with the management of the group and learn about the progress of the quantum project GLACIAR, developed by ULMA Medical Technologies within the framework of the Gipuzkoa Quantum program.
The institutional delegation, led by MP General Eider Mendoza and MP Economic Promotion and Strategic Projects Unai Andueza, held a meeting to learn about the evolution of ULMA in the current global context. Aitor Ayastuy, Iñaki Gabilondo and Ibon Calvo participated in this meeting.
One of the main focuses of the visit was the follow-up to the GLACIAR project, an initiative that explores the application of quantum inspired technologies to the health field. Specifically, the project works on automatic detection of microaneurysms in background images, with the aim of improving the early diagnosis of diabetic retinopathy. This is an area that requires high sensitivity and where these advanced technologies can make a qualitative leap.
The Council stressed the value of this type of project as a lever to strengthen the competitiveness of the Guipuzcoano business fabric and to make progress in sectors of high added value, such as biosciences and advanced therapies. In this regard, Eider Mendoza stressed the importance of continuing to focus on innovation and valued the cooperative model of ULMA as an example of entrenchment, competitiveness and commitment to people.
For his part, the General Manager of ULMA, Iñaki Gabilondo, stressed that initiatives such as Gipuzkoa Quantum represent an opportunity to strengthen the group’s competitiveness and advance innovations with real impact, in close collaboration with the institutions of the territory.
