He is currently the CEO of ULMA Construction, one of the largest businesses in the ULMA cooperative group. The changeover will take place due to the upcoming retirement of the present general manager, Iñaki Gabilondo.
ULMA Group’s General Council has appointed Aitor Ayastuy as the future general manager of the cooperative group, replacing Iñaki Gabilondo. This body, in which the nine cooperatives of the ULMA Group are represented, has approved Ayastuy’s appointment to take over from Gabilondo, who has been at the helm of the ULMA Group’s General Management for the last 16 years.
The handover process has been carried out in an orderly manner over recent months with the aim of ensuring the continuity of continuity of ULMA’s social and business project and prepares ULMA Group to tackle the challenges of the future.
The new general manager fits the profile defined to lead ULMA in the coming years. He has extensive experience in the industrial and management fields, international experience and a solid commitment to the cooperative model.
In addition, Ayastuy has been a member of the ULMA Group’s Board of Directors for 17 years, giving him detailed knowledge of the different realities that coexist in an industrial group with highly diversified activities in both sectors and markets.
New phase
After 16 years at the helm of the ULMA Group, Iñaki Gabilondo will conclude a period marked by growth and consolidation of the project next year.
Until then, both will maintain their current responsibilities, while working in coordination at the head of the Group’s General Management to ensure stability and continuity.

Aitor Ayastuy was born in Arrasate 57 years ago. He holds a degree in Business Studies from the University of the Basque Country and an International MBA from Robert Gordon University (Aberdeen, Scotland). In 1995, he joined ULMA CyE, S. Coop. in the Agricultural business. Two years later, he moved to the Construction area, working both in Oñati and internationally. Since June 2008, as CEO of ULMA Construction, he has managed the cooperative’s development, driving its international growth and consolidating the project.
